Sr. Director/Vice President, Finance

Job Summary
Catamaran is seeking a dynamic Senior Director/Vice President, Finance to help build and lead a Finance organization to support our fast-growing company. The successful candidate for this newly created and highly visible position will lead both the strategy and execution of Catamaran’s finance operations and be responsible for accounting, reporting, financial planning and analysis. The Sr. Director/VP, Finance will be a key member of the management team and a strategic finance business partner.  This position will be responsible for implementing policies and processes to enable rapid growth of the company in addition to the day-to-day financial operations of the company, including month end closes, cash flow management, planning and budgeting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Partner with other company leaders to (1) develop strategic plans which integrate financial planning with research, business development and fundraising; (2) understand critical scientific and operational decisions and the related financial impact, (3) create a long-range plans and financial projections and (4) develop and implement equity and debt financing strategies
  • Develop accounting systems that build foundation for future growth, including possible IPO
  • Create, maintain and track annual budgets and monthly forecasts
  • Manage cash flow vs financing needs and strategic scientific milestones
  • Prepare financial presentations for Board meetings
  • Lead month-end close process and preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Build and manage Finance team to support accounts payable and payroll
  • Oversee the independent valuation and year-end independent financial statement audit
  • Assist with maintenance of the capitalization table and support all shareholder issues
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to develop, maintain, and strengthen internal controls
  • Manage outsourced service providers covering accounting, tax and procurement
  • Partner with other team leaders to identify and secure new facilities
  • Manage and comply with government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Continually evaluate and drive improvements across finance operations
  • Assist with specific projects and initiatives unique to a fast-growing biotechnology start-up, such as system implementations and updates and business process improvements

Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12+ years finance and accounting leadership experience, with a preference for big 4 CPA expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
  • Biotech industry experience required
  • Strong analytical, communication and written skills required
  • Experience managing and growing a team of high performing finance professionals
  • Demonstrated history taking on increasing roles and scope
  • Experience building budgets with a collaborative approach to create team ownership
  • Experience at a company that raised multiple rounds of funding, including growth round(s)
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, reporting and compliance
  • Excellent business acumen that includes good financial skills, financial analysis, and budgeting skills. Demonstrated leadership skills as an organization-wide strategic planner and in the successful implementation for those plans, both short and long term
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work and communicate effectively at all levels within and external to the organization
  • High personal integrity and strong work ethic
  • Excellent writing/documentation skills
  • Ability to operate efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership and managerial abilities
