Catamaran Bio is developing novel, off-the-shelf CAR-NK cell therapies designed to treat a broad range of cancers, including solid tumors. Our proprietary capabilities enable us to harness the natural cancer-fighting properties of NK cells and enhance and tailor their effectiveness with the power of synthetic biology and innovative non-viral cell engineering. We are using our TAILWIND™ Platform, an integrated suite of technologies, to specifically address the end-to-end methods of engineering, processing and manufacturing NK cells and rapidly advance our pipeline of CAR-NK cell therapy programs. Catamaran is backed by leading financial and corporate investors, including SV Health Investors, Sofinnova Partners, Lightstone Ventures, Takeda Ventures and Astellas Venture Management.

We seek a highly skilled and motivated Vice President, People, Culture and Effectiveness to lead the HR function and support Catamaran through a period of high growth. The Vice President will be effective in developing culture and people strategy with leadership, to optimize organization and employee effectiveness.  This individual will be entrepreneurial and start up comfortable, to build out differentiated programs that drive high employee satisfaction and engagement.  This role will report directly to the CEO of Catamaran Bio and the individual will be a part of the executive leadership team, with a high degree of visibility and influence in the company.  We are looking for someone who will be a true business partner for the key technical functions of the organization, and help enable us to achieve our ambitious goal of delivering effective therapies for cancer patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage overarching HR strategies, processes, and procedures for the company
  • Establish employee programs, policies and procedures to optimize professional development, employee performance, and high levels of engagement and retention
  • Partner with leadership to define and advance a high achieving culture for Catamaran Bio
  • Develop and deliver a vision for overall talent strategy including workforce planning, total rewards and technology to achieve best in class cell therapy performance
  • Develop and manage recruiting, hiring, and onboarding processes to ensure differentiated talent acquisition practices
  • Be the point person for DEI as well as ESG initiatives of the company
  • Build out the HR function as needed, including long term plan for additional headcount
  • Participate actively in weekly senior management team meetings and contribute to identification and resolution of key business issues
  • Partners with managers to identify key skill gaps and develop accurate job descriptions, source and interview candidates, and support appropriate hiring decisions
  • Designs effective on-boarding approaches and trains managers with a special focus on the prospective or new hire experience
  • Develop and implement company’s compensation program including a comprehensive compensation strategy (cash, equity, benefits), differentiated benefit offerings and reward and recognition program
  • Handle employee-related issues with the highest degree of integrity and discretion
  • Provides coaching to executives, managers and employees, with an emphasis on strength finding and optimizing work styles to deliver high impact performance
  • Drives talent development including an employee driven Performance and Potential process, with a focus on professional development and leadership growth
  • Provides support in preparation for Organization effectiveness, Culture or talent-related Board topics
  • Partners with leadership and key stakeholders in coordinating and executing monthly town hall/all hands meetings
  • Coordinates effective transfer of information between Payroll, IT, Finance, stock administration, etc. in support of all HR transactions. Works with Findentifying and implementing systems to streamline manual tasks
  • Develops, recommends and implements HR related policies and procedures and ensure compliance with federal, state and local requirements; ensure preparation and compliance for internal and external audits


  • BS or equivalent, advanced degree preferred, 10-15 years of human resources leadership
  • Proven experience in all areas of HR from recruiting and onboarding to talent development, compensation and benefits

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, with a professional demeanor and the ability to interact with all levels of management, board, colleagues and vendors
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with the ability to present at the executive level with the capability to examine and project appropriate details
  • Hands on, well organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize and manage shifting responsibilities in a dynamic, cross-functional teamwork environment
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to manage complexity
  • Ability to adapt, demonstrating flexibility to implement new strategies and tactics to accommodate these changes
  • Thrives in fast-paced, ever-changing growth environment with ability to work independently
  • Prior biopharmaceutical industry experience preferred but not required
